Client state doesn't realise its a client part I've-really-stopped-counting. But Lammy (and Starmer behind him) is a British Imperial Nationalist to the core. His self-regard would collapse to admit the UK is not in moral control of its destiny. That's why he was fine caving to Mauritius or China.
