It's funny how much of the old testament is just transparently early leaders being like "stop eating bats, it's making everyone sick! why should you listen to me? because, uh.. what if I told you God said he'll be really mad if you do it"

People keep getting infections and dying from cutting sacrificial gashes in their forehead when they're in mourning, God says stop doing that too

The jump from "Eating shellfish is making everyone sick" to "God did not intend for man to eat shellfish" is not unreasonable. (Medieval Catholic version: "God did not give us enough meat to eat meat every day.")

"The Lord commands thou to install railings on thy roof." Deuteronomy was obviously sponsored by the homeowner's insurance industry.
