It's really good to see this being recognized and talked about - there's historically been a huge lack of empathy for people who don't evacuate because people assume they're all being stubborn, even though anyone who lives in the US knows how few resources so many people here have.
People with disabilities, people who can't afford it and people who don't want to abandon their pets are among the many who can't easily get up and leave before a hurricane.

my heart breaks for the disabled, incarcerated, impoverished & elder folks of the south without the means to evacuate. as a disabled poor person, i have reoccuring nightmares of being stranded in climate-change driven disasters & i can only imagine the fear & anger these communities must feel.
So many of you don't care about Covid safety or masking anymore. There's nothing that we can tell you, that will change your minds. But for the rest of us, like my friend, it can be life threatening. She/we deserve better than this 😭
