Thought things had improved with my 1.2 Nova with electronic ignition. Still a spinny thing with a hall effect sensor in it, if memory serves. Worked fine, then the transistor that boosted the signal failed. Unlike points it was an all-or-nothing-with-no-warning failure. The march of progress. Sigh.

Ah I remember all that with my Mk2 Escort. And helping my dad fix cars on the drive as a kid. Never seen them fail like that though!

It’s also why it must not fail. There must be terabytes of stuff that is rare or one-off that is not of great commercial importance yet is valuable in a personal/historical context.
