Dr Sam Engwell is attending the IAVCEI COT-INTIMATE-THM conference in Sicily, Italy, presenting on explosive volcanic eruptions bringing new insights to the research community. Find out more in the associated research paper 👇 link.springer.com/article/10.1...

A 'meet the scientist' card for Samantha Engwell, BGS volcanologist and geologist. Her research areas are listed to the right and her picture to the left. Research areas include physical dynamics of volcanic eruption / physical characteristics of volcanic eruptive deposits / numerical modelling of eruptive volcanic processes / rates of global volcanic activity and characterising volcanic behaviouis through use of novel datasets.

Now that's a gneiss map! Earlier this year BGS' mental health and wellbeing team invited staff to create the 'beadrock' geology of the UK out of craft beads. It's based on the UK & Ireland map published by BGS in 2017 and is now on display in our Keyworth HQ.
