Astro folks -- I need some data on grad admissions. How many Astro PhD applications are you getting & what's your ~acceptance rate? 🔭.
Our acceptance rate is about 5%, 20 admits from the 380 applicants, with 6-7 likely accepting admission.
UW Astro: I think @niais.bsky.social has shared this elsewhere… ~450 apps, probably 12ish accepted for an expected class of 4-5
@trentdupuy.bsky.social - I know we collated these stats for Edinburgh a while back. Can you share them with Britt?
@jjfplanet.bsky.social just posted these stats over at The Bad Place!
About 170 , for a class of at most 4 this year (UMN Astro program)
I really wish the AAS compiled more stats around this. It sucks up so much effort and money and time across the field, and we have so little shared understanding of what is going on.
Edinburgh IfA: 2024 ~ 11/230 = 4.8% 2023 = 11/290 = 3.8% 2022 = 9/195 = 4.6% 2021 = 13/280 = 4.6%
Britt, are you compiling a list somewhere? Could you share with me?
GSU astro: ~120 applications and we make about 10-12 offers hoping for 4-5 acceptances
Folks could add info to that google spreadsheet with gre and grad fees
