My co-worker spent hours trying to track down a book that a patron had asked about, going through all our interlibrary loan resources. Nothing. Turns out the patron had asked ChatGPT for book recs and it made up some titles and summaries. The book did not exist.

This shit is what I mean about how genAI is not actually a time saver. It wastes not only your time, but the time of the person who has to sort out the AI mess. The researcher now has to do work all over again, and that librarian lost hours that could've gone to their actual job.
