Yesterday it was seating for 15 to 20 people to enjoy a meal. Today it's parking for two cars. Surely a less parking-obsessed mayor and council could have figured out how to enforce better design standards while allowing restaurants to use these spaces all year. Even the sidewalk seating is gone.

The year is 2050. New York's streets contain exactly one car, whose ever-morphic mass fills every street and parking lot, driven by Elon Musk. Sidewalks have been banned. Pedestrians are shot on sight.

These spaces were social hubs. We'd often walk by these restaurants, inevitably see someone we knew eating outside, and stop and say hello. That's the kind of spontaneous interaction that makes city life so great. Eric Adams and the City Council only care about their true constituents: cars.

But I bet those two cars really enjoyed being out in such nice weather for lunch!

God I hate nyc. I'd leave if it weren't for new yorkers.

They did this to the diner my family's been eating at for thirty years. Utterly infuriating, I am incandescent about it.

What a shame. They had a chance to keep something really wonderful and opted to tear it down

Anybody else see the bloody irony of removing outdoor sitting from a restaurant named *Terrace*, or is it just me?

is the exact same car still parked in front of the two boots

Could have turned it into bicycle parking for way more than two bicycles.

In San Francisco, the post-COVID Shared Spaces manual is 124 pages of rules and regulations. Compliance costs thousands of dollars. No wonder restaurants are ripping out these parklets all across the City. Car culture wins again.
