Lighter #libraryhorror 📚: Morristown library had basement problems since a 1994 gas explosion there. In 2010, staff noticed ominous light flickering at opening time, locked doors & evacuated, before another explosion blew off the front doors & destroyed the old wing, popping manholes on the street.

Turned out the local power company's underground network appeared to be harboring explosive gas (not natural), possibly set off by an electrical cable fault. Assistant Director Norton commented "They've got to stop blowing us up. It's ridiculous." www.nj.com/news/2010/05...
