I’d be remiss if I didn’t end with a big thanks to my friend & colleague Adam Ward. I’ve so appreciated his advice, perspective, and mentorship as I embarked on this path. (This is also to point out that you need mentors at every career stage! And Adam is truly one of the best.

I grew up in Iowa, as did five generations of my family before me. As I talk about a lot here—I’m a #FirstGen college grad. My grandfather only completed 8th grade and farmed his whole life. It feels good to be moving to a place we still call home even after >20 years away!

We’re moving to IOWA STATE! I’m excited to join ISU’s EEOB Dept as their incoming Chair, starting in January 2025. It’s an exceptional group of scholars and a uni that does important work in my home state. I’m honored to be selected for the role & have lots of ideas to get going!

Happy Gotcha Day to our rescue mutt Ranger! She’s the best so we celebrated with a pupcup and ice cream for the humans too!

Scientists often talk about how the bar is increasingly raised in grant review. YET, we get/give reviews that say "The Broader Impacts are outstanding, but largely filled by existing programs." WE can stop this. Outstanding is outstanding--we don't have to keep asking for NEW and HIGHER.

I'm just hoping the weather doesn't throw us too many "false floods" that aren't part of the experimental design!!
