Scientists often talk about how the bar is increasingly raised in grant review. YET, we get/give reviews that say "The Broader Impacts are outstanding, but largely filled by existing programs." WE can stop this. Outstanding is outstanding--we don't have to keep asking for NEW and HIGHER.
I shared my Annual Review this year w/ my trainees, because they want to know what we track & get evaluated on. They were surprised there was little to track regarding lab culture/the work I put into training (it’s pretty much a list of current /graduated trainees). It just doesn’t count for much.
