We’re moving to IOWA STATE! I’m excited to join ISU’s EEOB Dept as their incoming Chair, starting in January 2025. It’s an exceptional group of scholars and a uni that does important work in my home state. I’m honored to be selected for the role & have lots of ideas to get going!

Scientists often talk about how the bar is increasingly raised in grant review. YET, we get/give reviews that say "The Broader Impacts are outstanding, but largely filled by existing programs." WE can stop this. Outstanding is outstanding--we don't have to keep asking for NEW and HIGHER.

No Fooling—TODAY was Day 1 of the #AIMS Kansas drydown experiment! We will sample for two weeks during normal spring flow, then hook up the pipes to the dam on 15 April to dry out the ‘impact’ reach for 30 days before a controlled rewet. Follow along for updates & wish us luck!

I shared my Annual Review this year w/ my trainees, because they want to know what we track & get evaluated on. They were surprised there was little to track regarding lab culture/the work I put into training (it’s pretty much a list of current /graduated trainees). It just doesn’t count for much.
