my husband and i have always said you can tell when a person has never gotten punched in the face, or genuinely told to shut the fuck up, and now i am adding that you can tell when someone has never been truly afraid, never felt real fear in their life
I don’t like these people
I have seen when the moment came where they hit the find out button. The utter shock...
The Misfit was right
Remember the guy who was making fun of Mike Tyson on a plane right up to the moment Tyson gave him a beating? It's wild (and telling) that he never once thought "Making fun of Mike Tyson might be dangerous".
We stopped Nazis from showing up at hardcore shows by beating the living shit out of them. Those people - wearing Nazi gear to a goddamn restaurant - are the ones who should be afraid. Respectable, conflict-averse cis white folks are shielding literal Nazis from consequences. (Again)
I've always thought that you can tell when people have never had any real things to worry about in their lives: they often seek out risk; like rich kids snowboarding (not that regular people can afford to do that anyway) and find things to worry about, like immigration or trans people.
Or felt fear once and resolved to do anything to never feel fear again.
You could substitute “fear” for any traumatic experience I think, including being punched in the face. Experience is the best teacher.
real fear and real want impacts everyone differently but the absence of them does tend to create a certain type of attitude here in the richest country in the world
Once I was talking with a man who said he learned more about <subject> when he was asked his opinion & realized he didn’t know enough to have one. I respect that. He asked if it was the same for me & I said no, being asked for your opinion isn’t a universal experience. He was shocked.
