A lot of hype for battery locos too weak to operate outside of dual mode, meanwhile catenary freight trains have exist for decades for heavy applications. CARB invests in experimental battery tech but won't electrify the Alameda corridor- why?? #CatenaryNowwww.canarymedia.com/articles/tra...
CARB should invest in a conversion kit (hello Siemens right there in Sacramento?) to swap out diesel prime mover for a transformer, resulting in married pairs of 1 diesel-electric + 1 electric, with 12 axles. Demo on SF peninsula corridor.
Overhead catenary runs the worlds heaviest freight trains and has since the 70s. Money spent on battery prototypes could have electrified half of the Alameda corridor, concretely reducing emissions in one of the most polluted regions of the US. We need a program to fund electrification.
