With politics nothing is off the table, getting something for themselves thrown into the bargain especially with the us election around the corner. Politics is dirty and if a politician/leader is worth their salt they will be positioning themselves to gain a bit of sway.

The Gulf states should halt all oil and gas exports/production with immediate effect, start hitting economies and then you will see action taken pretty damn swift.
