When I was running for the state legislature, I proposed a rule that said every district must have a cookie cutter made of it and you must be able to cut, bake and transfer a dozen cookies of your district to cooling without breaking any. My district would have failed.

If you write that means you're a writer, however you do it. If you want to go pro and make it a career, with all the rejection, criticism, deadlines, pressure, etc that it entails, you have to figure out if it works for you, if it's a job you can do and still keep your mental health. 4/4
I think if I made myself do it it would be useless to me except as an exercise in self-sabotage/torture. I can't do timed writing exercises when I am the one leading the writing exercise workshop. It doesn't do anything for me, though a lot of people love it, and that's okay. 3/-
Writing is art and everyone arts differently, according to the way our brains work. One of the learning curves of writing is figuring out what works for you. Ex: I couldn't do a multi-day workshop where you have to write a story per day/week/whatever. 2/-
The thing about writing advice is that no writing advice works for everybody. Or even a large percentage of everybody. The "write every day" thing is like workshops, Clarion, MA degrees, how-to books, special software, etc, it is not for everyone. Nothing is. 1/-
