There's too much writing advice out there, most of it with the feel of those "...for Dummies" books. I'd much prefer people be left to develop their own, different writing styles, instead of presenting personal preferences as ironclad rules.

I'm sorry, no. This is a treadmill of linguistic tedium that makes effective communication - particularly brevity - functionally impossible. We shouldn't be forming all prose the way we write tweets, by getting out in front of anything that might make someone somewhere feel something negative.
