Or is a Sporran atupe of traditional Scottish 'fanny pack' (or as I would call them bum bags)? A kind of forerunner to the modern day fanny pack/bum bag?

I still remember the funniest cultural faux pas was when our uni American flatmate announced very loudly to the room of drunk Scottish people that she had lost her fanny pack and had anyone seen it.
