I'm not surprised either, the exterior is the better painting but they're both rather weak.

It's the Lord Leycester hospital in Warwick, the interior view is the chapel of St James the Great inside the almshouses. But agreed, they're a bit dull.

Definitely a muzzled bear, it's the heraldic supporter of the Fiennes coat of arms, some of them in the church are more convincingly bear-like than others!
