âMaking Makersâ (Finch) is another book worth reading for the back story on the first two.
Two reasons âNew Makers of Modern Strategy (edited by Hal Brands) is superior to Makers I (Earle) & II (Paret): 1) chapters like this one âď¸ bring new perspectives (beyond standard Euro/US-centric), and; 2) considering strategy (also like âď¸) across all elements of power, in competition and conflict.
Starting Saturday morning with coffee and Tecumseh. Really enjoying this chapter in âwhole of society strategyâ in the âNew Makersâ by @kschake.bsky.social.
A good reminder that when we hear about âmoney for Ukraineâ, much of it is spent in our own communities, creating jobs in the United States, and growing our own defense industrial base.
I helped write a book on the U.S. trade deficit, and @dieworkwear.bsky.social explains this better than I ever could.
I always boil extra water for coffee (French Press) and pour boiling water down the drain just to kill drain flies. Pasta, coffee, we all find ways to put our vices to use for good.
That makes sense. I guess my question would be better stated by asking if one of the poles had shifted so far from its position of the last several generations that the conservative-progressive spectrum no longer applies.
Perhaps it is worth questioning if the left-right political spectrum paradigm as weâve known it for 70+ years still applies? Polarization implies movement to the extremes on that spectrum, which the author rightly points out has weaknesses as an explanation.
"Polarization fails as an adequate explanation of the American political landscape today, because the two parties now disagree over the basic facts and nature of democracy itself." Good piece by @juliaazari.bsky.social on one of the most overused, and frankly laziest, terms in political discourse.
The term is commonly used but fails to describe the hostility between many Republicans and Democrats ahead of the presidential election. Instead, American politics faces a deeper crisis, writes Julia ...
Seems like a reasonable snack. All things in moderation.
