Does Tim Walz get heated about cartography? You better believe it. minnesotareformer.com/2024/08/06/f...

Now THIS will seriously win my husband over. He’s a map nerd with a couple framed on our walls.

I LOVE THIS. Not only does it divide us, but it pretends that dirt votes. Dirt doesn't vote. People do. Maps like this are much better representations:

A map of the 2020 election results, displaying one-dot-per-vote.

I'd love to know what he thought of this map: xkcd.com/2399/large/

Gonna be honest, in practice, he has some "I'm a 'data guy' with not always completely informed thoughts" impulses. If he can correctly define a shapefile, I will allow it, though.

More from Tim Walz on the nexus between maps/data and policy. This is from yet another ESRI conference (he's done at least three of them)

OK, this is getting absurd. How much more can I like this guy?

From what I remember CNN started the trend during the 2000 campaign.

As someone currently studying GIS so that I can transition from social work into policy research & advocacy, this is exciting to see

This is a man who could have gotten my stepdad (geography major) to vote for a Democrat again.
