@andreavelasquez.bsky.social and I found that mass deportations reduced highly educated mothers work outside the home. Our care market relies on immigrants, many of whom are in very vulnerable positions. More legal pathways for caregivers & more public child care would help solve this.

If you’ve been wondering about the “Venezuelan gangs” in Denver/Aurora, I’ve been following the real story & explain it below TLDR there is no “gang takeover” of the city or buildings, thats just cover up for bad building management practices Also the gang narrative is racist

Nobody is prepared for this jolt to the legal system. The Supreme Court has shifted an unfathomable amount of power from Congress and the executive brach toward unelected, unaccountable federal judges. This will fundamentally alter how government works. slate.com/news-and-pol...

A brilliant dissent, of course, is still a dissent: a largely futile cry of sorrow and anger that reflects the liberal bloc’s near-total loss of influence at this Supreme Court. Even Kagan’s most biting prose cannot stop what will happen next. The majority has shot a missile at the agencies that run our government, from the Department of Commerce and the EPA to the Department of Labor, the Food and Drug Administration, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and every other bureau that protects Americans from harm every day. Rather than strike down one specific law, the conservative supermajority has hobbled the functioning of hundreds of agencies all at once. The decision will have a wildly outsized impact on Democratic presidents, who typically seek to beef up regulations, while favoring Republican presidents who enter office with a deregulatory agenda. And it leaves Congress in the lurch, denying lawmakers the ability to write laws the way they have for more than a century:

Interesting piece in WaPo on compound flooding. Rainfall flooding near the coast gets worse when rivers can't drain due to higher sea levels. 🎁 link:
