I think growing up in a hyper-individualistic society in a culture that glorifies singular heroes going it alone, with media all about Chosen Ones and individuals with special powers standing alone against evil has completely blinded a lot of people to the power of collective action.
This is what I loved about Buffy, is that the whole reason she survives so long is because she has a support system, and in the end they make it so she's not the ONLY slayer because what a preposterous system
It comes up a lot in the context of "Why are you focusing on X Issue when Z Issue is obviously so much more pressing!" But there are so many of us and it's okay if some of us pick different battles to prioritize. You're not a hero, you're not the Chosen One, nor is anyone else, and that's great!
