The notion that climate science in some way chose overshoot over massive immediate cuts and then convinced the world's policymakers to opt for the former over the latter is totally ass-backwards. Scientists are simply not that powerful.
Blaming them for the lack of progress in cutting global emissions (despite some success in some countries) is hugely unfair giving that 'mainstream climate scientists' have been saying (shouting!) since the 1980s that we needed to cut CO2 emissions.
The other irony - as far as I can see - is that roughly the same people who chastise scientists for expressing policy views, then criticise them when they don't produce studies that promote particular policies, or do produce studies that promote policies they think are wrong. 🤔
