Blaming them for the lack of progress in cutting global emissions (despite some success in some countries) is hugely unfair giving that 'mainstream climate scientists' have been saying (shouting!) since the 1980s that we needed to cut CO2 emissions.

honestly, for the interested global heating by humans and the main consequences were already clear in the 70's, so this debate is somewhat strange - since than, no major forces followed scientific advice indeed #climatecrisis
I think you missed Prof X's lecture where we were taught mind control. It was immediately after the one where we learned to control hurricanes. In fairness, calling 1.6C-peak pathways 1.5C is a jedi mind trick, but the essay would read differently if it had to denote how much overshoot it means.
