Kinda feels like the people who are complaining that the internet sucks now are the people who used to have more clout and see posting as a way to gain some kind of status. They’re mad their ladder has fallen apart, but I’m still having a good time posting with my friends.
True, niche websites and forums are still there and as active as ever. The big social media platforms are dying, but that’s fine.
on the one hand I do feel like, pre-Elon, a big-ish Twitter account was a decently effective way to influence politics and policy discussions. on the other the actual experience fuckin sucked a lot of the time
but what about shit like "google is broken and it wasn't before"
Until you find a way to put autoplay MIDI files on a post, they’re right and you’re wrong.
I get it. Being a good poster used to get you all kinds of things, sometimes a whole career. I’d be mad too if I thought that was going to continue indefinitely and I hitched my wagon to it, but that doesn’t mean the Internet is bad now, it just means you don’t get what you want out of it anymore.
Wired magazine circa 1997 would like you to refer to it as THE NET please.
