For the record, I would have handed you a nickel and not just a sandwich as your bus came rumblinā€™ through.

Goodbye to Dottie, aka the Sassbot, Miss Merple, the Treat Detective, the One-Fanged Wonder. Killer of strings, singer of 2 a.m. arias, judger of souls, blepper extraordinaire, the softest cat in the world. She started off timid, but one day she decided we were Safe and never stopped yelling at us.

Dottie the orange-and-white cat with her chin propped on the edge of a cat bed, half asleep.
Dottie stares into your soul and finds you wanting. Her glare is so intimidating you might not even notice that her tongue is poking out the side of her mouth.
Dottie screm. Mouth wide open, eyes closed, head blurry, no teeth to speak of.
Dottie and her very similar-looking sister asleep in front of a window with their foreheads touching.

The bar is very convenient to me, so Iā€™d been a few times even though the service was always indifferent at best, but that was the day I decided I was never going back.

The waitress handed us our drinks and ignored us again until both glasses were empty, so after seven or eight eons I decided Iā€™d rather stop being at that bar than register a complaint.

If you ever worry youā€™re bad at your job, remember that one time a professional bartender served me a Manhattan that wound up being a glass of vermouth with a dash of bourbon.
