Every time people say "but how will we afford universal healthcare," please remind them that our per capita PUBLIC spending on health care is already at the level of countries with universal public care. Private spending is just an additional fuckery on top of that.
We spend double the Swiss and they get it free.
I've annoyed everyone with this before, but our taxes in France (+essentially 100% free health care for the whole family) are lower than they were in Texas (+high monthly premiums and an $8k deductible).
Spending so much to get so little!
It's higher than. The 2019 numbers when adjusted for exchange rate was US: USD 12,500/patient Canda: USD 8,600/patient
Funny thing is in Canada our idiots will use your exorbitant spending as proof your system is better 🙃
Your tax dollars are ALREADY PROVIDING ENOUGH FUNDING for everyone to have health care. ALREADY. We just don't have it because the government has decided we all need to spend another $8K per person to make United Health Care own everything.
We have universal healthcare in Brazil and I don't need to tell you that the United States can afford to spend a LOT more money than we can. The idea that universal healthcare is "unaffordable" is unadulterated bullshit.
I tell them all the time we’d be saving money
Yep. It's a supply and funding issue. I've started looking into concierge coverage to supplement our Medicare Advantage because we've resorted to paying out of pocket to get some services. Funny. When you tell your insurance company you've gone out of system, suddenly appointments open up.
