The hardship caused by Universal Credit deductions must end
The likelihood is that this is a rhetorical intervention, more than a policy intervention. Jenrick and Badenoch are making pretty similar cultural arguments to each other & to Braverman previously (though Braverman, Badenoch may get a somewhat higher profile when they say similar things to Jenrick)
Leading critic of the 2 child limit gives up any power they had to affect the policy. The question is whether it goes at budget 2025 or later in the Parliament. Labour backbenchers are pretty much the only group able to influence the timing from 'outside' So yep child poverty just got a reprieve
Among other things, this is just Grade A political ineptitude. You've carved out a space where no matter how difficult you are internally the whips have to give you softer treatment, it's right at the start of a five year parliament, etc etc.
In her resignation letter, the MP lambasts Sir Keir Starmer for the ‘staggering hypocrisy’ of accepting gifts worth tens of thousands of pounds while scrapping winter fuel payments
Dayrider. A disgruntled DfT official hacks a bus so that every ticket it prints is an all-day pass. The resulting impact on the operating company's profit margins means it must be brought into public ownership
Another brilliant report on the damage being done by Universal Credit deductions - by my colleague Jagna Olejniczak publiclawproject.org.uk/resources/fr...
New PLP research reveals how damaging deductions are, how inaccessible DWP systems can be, and why we need urgent change now
