It's official release day for my textbook today! I have to be honest that it's both exciting and a little nerve-wracking to have this out in the world for other people to read, but I really hope folks enjoy it and try doing some of this stuff in the classroom. www.routledge.com/Practical-Vi...

It’s also worth noting (this is a detail that would have mired any other President in weeks of scandal) that these machines were the property of the US Government and not Trump’s to give away?

One bad possibility is that the White House had some machines in reserve and he gave those to Putin (reducing redundancy at WH). A worse possibility is that he diverted machines meant for elsewhere in the government. Also, not sure how export controls and other such things might have figured here

Ohhhhhh, it wasn’t boxes of COVID tests, it was the only rapid testing mechanism available at the time (vs. PCR tests)

The book also reports that Mr. Trump, while still in office early during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, secretly sent Mr.
Putin what were then rare Abbott Point of Care test machines for the Russian's personal use. Mr. Putin, who has been described as particularly anxious about being infected at the time, urged Mr. Trump to not publicly reveal the gesture because it could damage the American president politically. "I don't want you to tell anybody because people will get mad at you, not me," Mr. Putin reportedly told him.

Seriously, some of the most toxic, combative parts of the internet are parenting groups/forums. Because little galvanises people like proving they're 'a good parent' to others. The social status and group dynamics take over fairly rapidly. And it that seldom leads to anywhere reasonable. /4
