Noah Bergren, FOX35: "I am at a loss for words ... This is now the 5th strongest hurricane ever recorded by pressure on this side of the world. The eye is TINY at nearly 3.8 miles wide. This hurricane is nearing the mathematical limit of what Earth's atmosphere over this ocean water can produce."

Fox35 storm team graphic of Hurricane Milton from the National Hurricane Center. Shows 3.8 mile wide eye of the storm, represented by green center and yellow and orange rings around it. Background of graphic is red. White and yellow lightning bolts dance around the eye.
Fox35 storm team graphic of Hurricane Milton from the National Hurricane Center. Now zoomed out, shows eye of the storm as tiny and around it an enormous intense hot red swirl, and around it yellow and green, superimposed on a map of the water off the shore of Florida.

the more i think about it, the more i realize how powerful it was for kamala to tell alex cooper that some women don’t aspire to be humble. i found it really clarifying and, frankly, freeing—like permission i didn’t know i needed.

How did 60 minutes describe the neo-nazi rally in charlottesville and Donald Trump's comments at the time? What a weaselly "you've called this obviously racist thing racist, but we'll avoid judgment and use a euphemism"

thirty five years ago i took a class called "Poverty in America" at Yale and the professors tried again and again to impress upon us that people generally make entirely rational decisions based on their specific economic circumstances - it's just that their circumstances are entirely untenable

Menstrual supplies are a CRUCIAL need for people affected by disaster. I hope all the men spewing this trash spend their last days marinating in their own filth at the nursing home.

couldn't find it but there was a quote tweet to this asking how to vote for the yellow line and I think about it a lot

Hillary Clinton: what's at stake for our climate in this November's elections? Absolutely everything.
Below is a graph with projections of carbon emissions comparing Trump, Biden, and the target. Biden is well above the target.

She's great on tiktok. I wish she was still here too, but nice to hear both longish analysis and short comments over there

The military takes climate change seriously, because if leaders there didn’t, they would be failing in their responsibilities to keep the country safe and maintain capabilities under extreme weather.
