Mandate: an official order to do something. Ban: an official order not to do something. Same thing. Yet the freedom crowd thinks ban is good, mandate is bad. Funny.
It’s like turning not washing your hands into a culture war issue. The entire thing is extremely weird to me.
And now the entire UC system has banned masks. In the middle of a huge COVID surge. Glad I got out of CA and so far WA (well, the Seattle area anyway) doesn't seem to be considering these, but this is getting crazy.
I like how they're leaving it up to steroid-addled cops to determine if it's a medical mask or not. That should work out so well.
The underlying attitude seems to always be "Your problem is your problem; making it mine is violating my freedom, and if defending my freedom demands that you suffer and die, that's the price I'm willing to pay".

I misread "ban" as "mandate" and was very concerned at people agreeing
I'm currently dealing with COVID for the fourth time. It's been 12 days now and I'm still not better. I'm fully vaxxed. But ever since the first time, seems like I catch every other strain. My partner has been told not to mask at work. I just don't want to die again.
I personally think it’s gonna be a harder sell for governments to insist on a mask ban for security reasons, now that smartphones can still identify you (for security purposes) with your mask on. I have an iPhone that has FaceID and it’s critical that I can keep my mask on when paying with my phone.
