I was in Mississippi as a visiting writer of a university to speak on my novel which was where I met my homie the poet @ctsalazar.bsky.social, & the post office of the town had a framed portrait of a Klansman on its wall. So never lie in southerners faces if their terror becomes sudden news to you.

I facilitate a weekly poetry circle with a really lovely retirement community. Here’s 3 pages of some prompts from my planning journal free to a good home (poets and educators)

OF POETRY PODCAST, EP 55
Your book does something that I want more poets to do, which is to write a book-this such a poet statement, so I can be reviled for this--but to write a book so heavy that it becomes light... [Invitatory] has weight, but you approach it in such a way that it is also approachable for your reader.
Molly
...it makes me think of Calvino who said: not light like a feather, light like a bird. The way I think about that, I guess, is that the bird is a body, right?
There's muscle, there's tendon, there's bone.

Happy 93rd birthday to the revolutionary theorist Frantz Fanon. His WRETCHED OF THE EARTH is mandatory reading for you. If you've not read this yet, get that on your agenda for soon, or you can't come with us in the struggle. @shengokai.bsky.social

and the river of my attention laying itself down— / bending, / reassembling— Jorie Graham

THE SURFACE
It has a hole in it. Not only where I
concentrate.
The river still ribboning, twisting up,
into its re-
arrangements, chill enlightenments, tight-knotted
quickenings
and loosenings-whispered messages dissolving
the messengers—
the river still glinting-up into its handfuls, heapings,
glassy
forgettings under the river of my attention—
and the river of my attention laying itself down—
bending,
reassembling—over the quick leaving-offs and windy
obstacles—
and the surface rippling under the wind's attention— rippling over the accumulations, the slowed-down drifting
permanences
of the cold bed.
I say iridescent and I look down.
The leaves very still as they are carried.
