At what point does Airbnb get held responsible, when guests complain of lack of exits? When do we tell a fire department that an awareness and evacuation exercise for a short-term rental accommodation is obviously absurd? And city hall, jfc, how many times can they fuck this up?
In particular, I'm wondering if the 0-49 age group is still the only remaining one with consistent excess mortality. It appears acute Covid isn't killing people of prime working age, but the sequelae are the only obvious culprit for this excess mortality.
Too much of this story didn't add up, so I went digging this morning. The Concordia obit juxtaposes his academic work and the student protest, appearing to suggest he was a protester... but he had a completely different role: thelinknewspaper.ca/article/we-d...
In 1969, students protested against biology teacher Perry Anderson—infamously accused of racism—and the institution that backed him, with riots that escalated into vandalism and arson in the Hall buil...
So maybe today's students will get an apology in ~2070?
Huh. "On October 28, 2022 Concordia released an official apology for its mishandling of race-based student complaints and subsequent outcomes of the 1969 Sir George Williams student protest." Interestingly, the Concordia description of the events doesn't mesh well with the Wikipedia page...
A few Jewish friends mentioned the work they're doing with their families and inside their religious organisations, work which is not publicly visible to folks like me. I'm not about to canvas all my friends to interrogate them... but the concern lingers, and I don't know how to handle this.
I very explicitly told that friend they were traumatised and living in a media echo chamber that kept them triggered. This is not a healthy place to be. You cannot advocate for reasonable policies that actually solve the problems if you live in that state.
That person asked why Israel is not getting aid. :O When I pointed out that Israel got billions more just last week, and that the aid organisations like MSF they see fundraising for Lebanese refugees are neither needed nor wanted in Israel... "oh, that makes sense" Sigh.
I am now on page 35 and reading stats about cyclists... how can 565 collisions causing at least one injury result in 562 injuries?
But the biggest bit of idiocy in that chart is adding deaths, amputations and broken tail lights - or any material damage. If the number of claims for material damage went down while deaths were up, there would be nothing to celebrate. So that's a dumbass, epistemically corrupt measure.
