I appreciate that some people may not be overly enthusiastic about this, but genuinely think this is a good move from Labour. The world is changing and it is essential that children have the knowledge and tools to identify reality from fiction online. www.theguardian.com/education/ar...
Education secretary launches review of curriculum in primary and secondary schools aimed at teaching critical thinking
Great research for teachers to use by Sam Wineburg and @mikecaulfield.bsky.social called Verified, an accessible book. Examples given that could be adapted for use in teacher education as we have at Roehampton, in tutor time, and in many curriculum subjects.
Do away with Critical Thinking skills and Media Studies and here we are...🙄
agree. We need everyone to be taught critical thinking and to have understanding of the media and manipulation. Also how our Country functions politically - nationally and at local level, in Law and financially - mortgages, pensions etc
I expect the only people to be unenthusiastic about this are those who are planning to spread falsehoods
Part of the problem with what kids are facing on Tiktok etc is the subtlety, the frequent repetition of the ideas and that it's often targeted. It's not just about critical thinking skills.
I’d like to see children being taught how to think critically.
Teaching critical thinking at a young age is really overlooked in my view. This is a subset of that. I've long thought populism struggles for oxygen where people are critical thinkers.
It is essential in today's world. But the problem also lies with the increasing difficulty in finding actual facts. Most serious articles are hidden behind paywalls, while the propaganda is free. I understand the need for journalists to make money, but the current system is counterproductive.
"a good move from Labour" It is if they'll be taught critical thinking. If it's really 'this is what we, extremist centrist rightwingers, think is extremist' we're doomed : ) 1/2
