The Republican Party is openly working to change rules **in the middle of an election** to their benefit in Nebraska, Georgia, and North Carolina. They do this because there is too little of a cost for them to do it
Former president Donald Trump spoke by phone this week with a Nebraska state senator as part of a last-minute push to change how the state allocates its electoral votes and block the easiest path Vice President Kamala Harris has to win the White House.
Nebraska is one of two states that award some of its electoral votes by congressional district. A vote from the Omaha area is part of Harris’s easiest path to victory.
Maine has to follow suit & go for winner-take-all
The win at all costs mentality stands athwart democracy
I blame Garland for this. He should have started prosecuting Trumps Georgia game on Jan 23 2021
Exactly. Why wouldn’t they? SCOTUS has handed them the keys to the kingdom.
@kevinmkruse.bsky.social (don't bother with "they don't care" replies). What does it say about all this that they will lose the vote handily and hope to leverage countermajoritarian institutions to win the presidency? Most Americans will expect at least a patina of legitimacy.
Bingo. This is like changing the rules while the game is underway. Except it's not a game.
It turns out that our justice system moving at the speed of smell is an actual problem.
They had three years to complain, change, argue. Hopefully there would be some law to prevent election year last minute pressure and anxiety.
That's why @kamalahqrepeater.bsky.social@marcelias.bsky.social to do the fighting for justice
I seem to remember their case for a "stolen election" in Pennsylvania included a rule change enacted by the Republican legislature a year prior to the election. I'm starting to think these guys may not be acting in good faith.
