In stats education in particular “best for answering common exam questions” and “best for being able to interpret data in the wild” can be dramatically different.

I think the stats curriculum has focussed on algorithms that are easy to assess (e.g. unequal width histograms) over other more useful knowledge/skills (making inferences from data). This gap feels larger than in other areas of maths, especially as technology can now do these things easily …
