I don’t go on twitter much, but the ads have been weird enough for me to take screenshots

Mainly this is why they’re dying in ad terms BUT scale is a counter pressure to brand safety. Sufficient scale makes some advertisers feel they need to be there.

I block every one of them when they show up. Not one major or recognizable brand in the bunch. And a lot of weird-ass "promoted" conspiracy shit.

Last few times I went on there most of the ads were sketchy dropshipping garbage, AI/crypto scammers, or weird and very specific threatening sponsored subtweets in the vein of “I know what you did, coxwanker666”

I think it’s 1) still a lot of eyeballs and 2) the belief that since Twitter is (was) such a diffuse place they can avoid direct association with the undesirable elements running around there (they can’t).

Same. I block every single one. It has given me great satisfaction to see only loser ads now
