As someone who is an old-school weirdo, I feel like anyone who can’t parse the difference between weird (neat) and weird (gross) is just being weird (willfully obtuse).
It's the same group that "translates" what DJT really means when he calls for Fascism as a political solution and thinks calling liberals "baby-killing pedophiles" is acceptable.
Seeing how people react to the label makes for a good litmus test for who is a cool weirdo & who is a dangerous weirdo. "You're weird!" "Thank you!" Worst "crime" was write some cringe fanfic that they still love. "You're weird." "HOW DARE YOU!!" Probably has a victim tied up in their basement.
Everyone that knows they're weird embraces it like a badge of honor. Weird people that don't realize how weird they are get confused at the label. The former group is currently crushing the latter to our great entertainment
Agreed, as I am also a weirdo (Radiohead).
Basically, this Techdirt Comment: www.techdirt.com/2024/07/29/i... A quote from it: > if there’s a group of adults meeting in robes and calling themselves dragons and wizards, that’s a little weird, but if it’s a LARP session that’s a very different class of weird than if it’s a Klan rally.
If you’ve been paying any attention to the political news in the last week, you may have seen stories about couch fucking, or dolphin porn, or burnt monkey testicles, or even cat ladies. Or really …
I think it's got that standard difference between most ways of being good and bad. If you're a weirdo for yourself (like X thing, enjoy Y hobby), then great. If you're a weirdo to others (want to check genitals, dictate what they can read, monitor the number of children they have) then you suck.
the appropriately weird know the difference between 'huh. weird.' *shrug* and 'ugh, weird' *recoil*
It's the classic Gonzo v Human Centipede dynamic. Both are weird in different ways, one I'd like to hang out with, the other I want to know less about
One of my favorite things to say to my kids is “you’re a weird little boy, and I love that” I assume that the pearl clutchers are clutching in bad faith.
It's like the difference between hellsite (affectionate) and hellsite (derogatory). Intuitively obvious.
