Dealing with health insurance in literally any capacity is a galling, debasing humiliation for every American, an insulting slog of unwinnable absurdity that should cause anyone unironically calling this the “greatest country in the world” to spontaneously combust.
And the only thing worse than having it is not having it, and trying to navigate health care costs without it. But it’s a close call sometimes.
My son and family have moved to Berlin, Germany. So many of the stresses of American life - finding and affording childcare, healthcare, maintaining two cars, worrying about sudden rent increases- just don’t exist there. It’s not for everyone, but they enjoy the stability and calm that all brings.
The existence of employers that claim to offer “good health insurance” is in itself an abomination
Got my seasonal vax yesterday, but I had to make a call to insurance company bc apparently when entering my insurance info in the computer, it’s necessary to omit 3 of the 4 letters in the member #. Of course! That makes total sense. 🤦🏼♀️
It’s one of the single most radicalizing events that can happen to an American, happening in the most absurd ways. “What do you mean this test to see if I have cancer will cost me $2,000 because it’s coded diagnostic and not routine?!?!?!”
My favorite thing is that the insurance company decides if you actually need the MRI the doctor wants in order to make the correct diagnosis. “Go to physical therapy first.” What? No one knows what the problem is. How does a physical therapist plan for an unknown problem? Makes ZERO sense.
Just today, I received a notice telling me I need to pay an overdue charge within 90 days or my coverage will be terminated. Except my coverage was already terminated, without notice, since the 90 day deadline was in fact three weeks before the date on the notice. I am now uninsured.
its makes me so frustrated the amount of time and effort is wasted every year at getting needed care not denied is insane, its so cruel and unnecessary
Also how it feels to work in healthcare. Went to all this school to learn like neuro rehab and shit and then the only thing my bosses ever talked to me about was my billable units.
