How many of these challenges are considered by PhD committees when evaluating the standing of graduate students? How many of them are considered by tenure committees when evaluating the work of an individual scholar and/or comparing them to peer scholars who are citizens?

Big bada boom! Russia’s new SS-29 RS-28 Sarmat) apparently blew up in the test silo. Another setback for the ICBM program intended to replace the aging SS-18. For more info on this and Russia’s nuclear arsenal, see our Nuclear Notebook: www.tandfonline.com/doi/epdf/10....

I find the "mainstream" nature of nuclear war fears in the early 1980s, and the way they "bled" into the zeitgeist, fascinating. It's a little hard for me to imagine successful pop songs about nuclear war today. open.substack.com/pub/doomsday...

How things come full circle. The Hindu newspaper headlines from August 1980 could well be the headlines today given all that's going on between India and Bangladesh. #Archives#ColdWar

"India’s MIRV capability indicates that it could have a greater ability to conduct a massive first strike that could bypass missile defenses w/ multiple warheads & decoys if it ever chooses to abandon its no-first-use policy" writes CISAC affiliate @debak.bsky.socialthebulletin.org/2024/04/how-...

Adding more nuclear warheads to India’s missiles won’t rock the boat with China. But things could still sink fast.
