My supervisor reacted VERY poorly to my decision to graduate âearlyâ (with a 4 year MSc, lolsob) and said some things that said more about his insecurities than my abilities, and that colours my perspective on this. Maybe I am being unfair to other mentors as a result.
IKR?! Hmm. Labelling those of us who donât stay in academia, or escape with our MSc instead of a PhD, as failures allows them to not think too deeply about their complicity in the systemâs flaws, perhaps?
I reckon that label says more about academics being subconsciously upset that their students chose a different life-path than them. It is interesting that the âpipeline problemâ hasnât changed a whit since the mid90s, despite all the hot air about making science more inclusive.
I would love to have a block list for these accounts too.
