“We are in another wave of COVID. It’s important to note that in the US vaccines have been available for a month and we won’t be getting access to vaccines in Alberta for another 2 wks … and we’re doing little aside from vaccination.” calgaryherald.com/news/doctors...

Doctors, nurses could be left out of Alberta COVID and flu vaccination campaign

While Alberta doctors and nurse practitioners await further news, pharmacies have begun receiving COVID-19 and flu vaccines for the season.

Oh the horror, now our colleague can (checks notes) pay their bills and not stay all evening at the lab for 1am time points

My supervisor reacted VERY poorly to my decision to graduate ‘early’ (with a 4 year MSc, lolsob) and said some things that said more about his insecurities than my abilities, and that colours my perspective on this. Maybe I am being unfair to other mentors as a result.

IKR?! Hmm. Labelling those of us who don’t stay in academia, or escape with our MSc instead of a PhD, as failures allows them to not think too deeply about their complicity in the system’s flaws, perhaps?

I reckon that label says more about academics being subconsciously upset that their students chose a different life-path than them. It is interesting that the “pipeline problem” hasn’t changed a whit since the mid90s, despite all the hot air about making science more inclusive.

I am home from TIGHR’s triennial conference. Imagine spending 4 days with 300+ fibre artists who all want to be friends & share knowledge. So inspired, need to sleep for a week. Niagara Falls is as amazing and tacky as you’ve heard in ways you haven’t imagined. Selfie with my soulmate at the Tunnel:

A middle-aged white couple stand on the platform at the end of the Niagara Falls Power Plant’s tunnel, where water once drained into the river after plunging through the hydroelectric power generating turbines near the water’s surface. A tourist boat (the Hornblower) can be seen approaching Horseshoe Falls (a high cliff completely covered in cascading water) in the background. Mist rises from the waterfall into a blue sky. This photo sounds like a white noise generator, but much louder - I bet the Thundering Ones don’t so much talk as shout at each other.
