Exactly and not necessarily worrisome in itself, to me. Just won't solve the problem of bad science. But if one believes the real problem was fraud all along, I see why they would see that as a solution. What worries me tho is what authoritarian ways of dealing with fraud do to scientific culture.

I agree with your points but doesn’t he view fraud as a systemic / normative issue well? How could it be otherwise if he is right it’s so widespread? « Human nature »?

Imho, an authoritarian approach to fraud is a more immediate risk to science culture. The rewards for publishing lots, regardless of quality, has insidious long-term impacts though. Researchers who take time to hone their craft are passed up for those willing to cut corners for a long pub list 1/2
