Every so often I see someone claim women only read romance novels for the smut but honestly I think the fact that romance readers choose whole novels with plots and character development and don’t just go straight for erotic short fiction every time kinda proves that’s a lie

Some smut I end up just reading for the story, like I get too attached to the characters!

The amount of angst and heartbreak we are willing to sit through proves it to be a lie.

100% Not to be too tmi but if I just want spice I am going for the short stories... that's rarely why I am picking up a romance book. Nobody wants all that build up to just use to *uncomfortable cough*

I grew up with no porn in my early teen years so I read a lot of romance novels, and the plots are great, and the sexy parts are great. like, why do we have to pick between an enjoyable story and smut?

100%. Not a woman but I love romance novels and fanfics, I read A LOT of erotic novels and the ones that only are about that with no plot and no good history are so fkng boring. A erotic novel NEEDS to have a good plot.
