All Dr. Ta-Nehisi Coates has done, and continues to do, is apply the same principles to Israel-Palestine that he applies to America.

People become hesitant to acknowledge and discuss apartheid, and the outrage against states built on ethnocracy diminishes, regardless of where they are.

Once we enter that intellectual territory, everything seems to come to a halt. Ironically, there is a mental boundary that stops at Palestine—suddenly, the commitment to these values fades.

conclusion, grim but with a hopeful vision embedded

Such an endgame appears more likely by the day. But it cannot bring the long-term security Israel seeks. Instead, it would leave Israel locked in a cycle of war and global isolation, dragging the United States with it. Israel needs a leader who will question the current definition of victory, acknowledging that true victory is not possible without peace. One does not have to believe in a “new Middle East” where Israel is fully accepted, trading and engaging with its neighbors, to appreciate that there is a different, realistic path forward. That path is not one of perpetual occupation and perpetual war. But for now, the latter is the path Israel is taking.

In my view, that sense of existential vulnerability is more dangerous to Israel's future than whatever military threats it faces (and they are real). The danger to Israel's future lies within, not without. 3/3

Rather than "crowding out" private enterprise, the government has often "dynamized in" private sector involvement. This pattern is evident across other high-tech industries, including pharmaceuticals and biotech. Sigh. Rant over. Thank you for listening.

The foundational research behind every technology that makes a smartphone "smart"—GPS, microchips, touchscreens, and even the Internet—was funded by the government. It was the state, not the market, that served as the true innovator and risk-taker.

The other day, she said, “The man is married with kids! Get it together, and lift your head up from all this work. There have to be other things out there besides this Yanis!” Mais pour moi, ces jours-ci, il n'y a que Yanis. Ce livre est tout simplement brillant.
