Update: Leaders of the PSID and other datasets that Cross was accused of plagiarizing in data descriptions release statement: Her writings "do not constitute plagiarism...Rather, her description of a large public dataset in this standardized way is simply good research practice."
Good on em
Glad to see them speaking out. Good column, Don.
I hope you posted this on the bird site. I’m curious what the dipshit’s response will be.
That douchebag from yesterday is gonna be soooooo mad
Describing someone’s dataset the way they describe it is a respectful and accurate way to refer to said data. Wow, “plagiarism as a brand,” you are so right. It’s stunning how effective this strategy is.
Too late, because, to paraphrase an old commercial, when Rufo speaks, administrators listen.
Rufo is an ignorant, hateful twat messaging to other ignorant, hateful twats. Of course he has to keep up his accusations and not accept reality. It's what he does.
Why do you expect less of “scholars of race” than is required of a high school freshman, who would be expelled for plagiarism, or a Harvard applicant, who’d be disqualified from admission? Plagiarism is the cardinal sin of academia.
It’s striking how he thinks that what right-leaning academics do wrt to plagiarism checks (a la Magness, e.g.) is something easy to do. I don’t particularly care for Magness, but at least he’s thorough and has a some semblance of understanding what can be called plagiarism
