Actually that's an optimistic view isn't it? I think history suggests that such events drive people to authoritarian forms of Govt.

I suppose that's one way to look at it. But what I think I was saying is that this kind of shift requires a massive reset on that scale. It doesn't mean that guarantees a more just economic society. But I can't think of when it happens without it.
