Friendly local woodworker here. Walnut oil can be toxic to people and pets and while all properly finished and cured woods can be made food safe, we generally advise not to use black walnut for food preparation surfaces or anything that might be chewed on, like dog accessories or cribs.
The model features an eye-catching wooden bowl. But can you whip egg whites in it?
Walnut wood is entirely safe for contact with food. Walnut bowls, cutting boards, and utensils are preferred over many other woods. There is no walnut oil in finished walnut wood products. Walnut oil is edible and safe, and is a common culinary oil.
Thanks for that info!
As a non-baker I saw this when it dropped and if I had the counter space I'd buy it for the vibes (not your point at all I realize).
When my dad did some woodworking with black walnut he ended up with what looked like chemical burns anywhere on his arms where the shavings touched him. Beautiful wood but yikes.
Who thought THAT was a good idea?!
I'm allergic enough to walnut oil that I have to be careful what oil paints I buy. And not just because I'm a filthy tip licker who learned nothing from the radium girls. Just being in the room with enough medium will get me properly wheezy. This would make every recipe potentially poisonous.
This bowl looks like Extra Work from here. I ain't doing Extra Work, I've got more than I can handle now.
If they made a copper bowl it would be just as striking and ACTUALLY USEFUL for baking god I want a copper bowl so much
Yeah, the bowl is pretty as a visual, but not something I would actually use. The body of the mixer is purty, but I’m not spending money for a bowl I’m never using.
