Yeah, and I get it, watching a movie while abhorring the main character is a drag, so of course the actors end up with compelling performances.
Some of it, at least, is that these movies often do a bad job NOT glorifying their subjects. I think it's a real debate on whether fight club actually stayed true to the spirit of the book in terms of the movie's tone.
