Some of it, at least, is that these movies often do a bad job NOT glorifying their subjects. I think it's a real debate on whether fight club actually stayed true to the spirit of the book in terms of the movie's tone.

I don't think it's glorifying to show why these characters are interesting or their lifestyles are seductuve, but it feels like no matter how well it's done there will always be some portion of the audience that doesn't get the distinction
