@karencosta.bsky.social I always think about you in regard to this book since many of the chapters are about the intersections of climate change and art, and approach things from a hopeful perspective rather than one of doom and gloom.
"Digging Earth: Extractivism and Resistance on Indigenous Lands of the Americas" is now available as in paperback and ebook versions! It explores the topic from many perspectives, including several chapters on artists' interventions. ethicspress.com/products/dig...
So I love this law. Basically, California spends billions replacing gas lines on a regular basis to make sure they aren’t leaking. The bill identifies neighborhoods up for replacement; if the neighborhood prefers, they will shut off the gas line and buy everyone free electric appliances instead.
👀 ⚡🧵 Last week, California passed a law that lets whole neighborhoods electrify, shutting down gas pipelines that would otherwise need replacement. The law allows up to 30 pilot projects through 2030, requiring that 2/3 of affected property owners agree to get of gas. www.kqed.org/news/1200671...
The law will allow up to 30 neighborhoods to end gas utility service and swap out gas appliances for electric ones — at no cost to residents.
“They call them beasts of burden, we call them our beloved mules,” the company wrote on Facebook Monday. “They are capable and willing to work in many conditions most won't. They are not stubborn… they are wise, and require respect.” RESPECT MULES!!!

Amid cable TV chatter of transferring power to Mike Pence, Trump shocks doctors by briefly leaving the hospital so his motorcade can drive slowly by a handful of flag waving supporters as he waves. He is accused of endangering the lives of the two Secret Service agents with him.
That isn’t a question; it’s a statement. America does not have a strong norm against ethnic cleansing because we’ve done it so many times that it’s fairly foundational.
Someone was surprised to learn that I yeet bugs out instead of *gently relocating* them. I appreciate the gesture. But in the tropics, seeing bugs where they shouldn't be is an hourly—not weekly thing. You learn what can survive a yeet to save time. In this thread I'm rating animal yeetability.
This story is frightening. Parents had no idea and saw no sign the bat bit their child. They want people to seek medical care for close contact with bats even if you don’t think you’ve been bitten. Rabies is brutal.
